Theory Test
The Theory Test was introduced in June 2001.
Before you can obtain a Learner Permit you must first pass your Theory Test. Theory Test Centres are located throughout the Country with two in Dublin. There are also mobile Test Centres. You apply for the Test or obtain more information from the Driver Theory Testing Service at 1890 606106 (LoCall). You can also obtain information on the Theory Test web site.

If you have special needs this should be stated on your application.
The Test is a "Multiple Choice" type.
There is a book of Questions available to assist you in your preparation. It is called the Official Driver Theory Test and is available from booksellers. There is also a CD Rom, which allows you to take sample tests on your PC.
The Test is conducted on a screen. You are asked 40 random questions and you receive your result on the spot
